Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Toyota Avalon earns the highest score, five stars, in every government crash test.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not tested the 2010 edition, but named the similar 2009 car a "Top Safety Pick" for its strong crash test scores and standard stability control.

The Avalon comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes with a brake force distribution system to make them more powerful in panic stops.  Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control, once expensive options on this car, are now standard equipment, as are active head restraints.

2010 Avalons come standard front and front-side airbags, side head curtain air bags, and a unique driver's knee airbag designed to prevent the driver's knees from impacting the dashboard in an accident.
