Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Highlander a top score of five stars for driver safety in frontal crash tests and four stars for passenger safety. It also gets five-star scores for both front- and rear-seat safety in side crash tests. It receives four-star rollover scores, which mean the 2WD and 4WD models have a 19 and 17 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash, respectively. The insurance industry gives the Highlander top scores of "Good" in frontal offset, side impact and rear crash protection tests.

The Highlander's standard safety features are impressive and include such rare-for-the-class equipment as three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag Other features include Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist Control. A backup camera is standard on Sport and Limited models.
