The new Matrix does well in federal government crash tests, and offers a good number of active and passive safety equipment.
Crash Tests
- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2009 Matrix five stars in front impact crashes and five out of a possible five stars for the driver's protection in side impact crashes. The 2009 Matrix also earns four stars for rear passengers' protection in side crashes, and a four-star rollover rating.
- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Matrix a "Good" rating for frontal offset and side impact tests.
Safety Features
All Matrixes come with front air bags and front seat-mounted side air bags for the driver and front passenger, as well as front and rear side curtain air bags.
