Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Toyota Matrix does well in federal government crash tests. This year's Matrix has been crash tested by the insurance industry, but the similar '09 Matrix scored high in both frontal offset and side impact tests. In addition, reviews praise the number of active and passive safety equipment offered standard on the Matrix.

All Matrixes come with front airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as front and rear side curtain airbags. The 2010 Matrix also has standard stability control.

Crash Tests

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2010 Matrix five out of a possible stars in front impact crashes and five stars for the driver's protection in side impact crashes. The Matrix also earns four stars for rear passengers' protection in side crashes, and a four-star rollover rating.
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 Matrix a "Good" rating for both frontal offset and side impact tests.
