Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Toyota Tacoma ranks at the top of the class for safety. In government crash tests the Tacoma earned five out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in both frontal and front-side crash tests, as well as a rollover rating of four stars. In side impact crash tests, it earned five stars for rear passenger protection in the double cab. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards the Toyota Tacoma the highest possible rating of "Good" for frontal-offset crash tests.

While these crash test scores are reassuring, the Tacoma is included in the 2009 recall of floormats from nearly four million Toyota and Lexus products after the mats were found to be at the root of a fatal car accident. If you're considering the Tacoma, be sure to read about the  Toyota recall, and ask your dealer what you should do about the Tacoma's floormats.

The Tacoma come standard with stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, front, side and side-curtain airbags.

  • "Toyota is making all its advanced safety features standard on the Tacoma. Familiar to most consumers are front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Not so familiar is the Star Safety System, which is comprised of five electronic brake controls." -- PickupTrucks.com
