Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The big news about the Toyota Yaris is that new safety features now come standard. Included in its comprehensive Toyota Star Safety System are an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Traction control and vehicle stability control -- which were previously unavailable -- are also now standard. The Yaris is among only a few cars in its class to offer this broad assortment of features as standard.

The 2010 Yaris receives high marks of four out of five stars across the board in government crash tests for driver and passenger safety in a front-end crash as well as for front and rear passenger safety in a side-impact crash.  The Yaris also receives a four-star rollover score, which means that there is only a 13 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash.

The insurance industry has not yet had a chance to test the 2010 Yaris, but the 2009 model received top scores of "Good" in both front and side impact crash testing. Consumers should note however that the 2009 model received only a rating of "Acceptable" in roof strength tests and an even worse rating of "Marginal" in rear crash protection tests.
