Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2010 Passat a "Top Safety Pick" in the midsize car class - an honor reserved for cars that ace all of the Institute's crash tests and offer standard electronic stability control at no extra change. Interestingly, the Passat doesn't do quite as well in government crash tests, receiving four out of five stars for protecting the driver and passenger in frontal-impact crashes.

  • "All Passats come very well equipped with safety features. Antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, anti-whiplash front head restraints, front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are all standard. Optional for all trims are rear-seat side airbags. -- Edmunds
  • "Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags." -- Consumer Guide
