Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Rabbit does very well in government and insurance industry crash tests, and offers a competent list of standard safety features.

Crash Tests

  • Although the three-door Rabbit has not been tested, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the four-door model four out of five stars for front impact tests and five out of five stars for side impact crashes. The Rabbit also earns a four-star rollover rating.
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2009 VW Rabbit the highest rating, "Good," for frontal offset tests, and a "Good" rating for side impact testing. The Rabbit is also an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" for good performance in front, side and rear tests with standard electronic stability control.

Safety Features

The 2009 VW Rabbit has standard anti-lock brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system, as well as front-seat side and side-curtain air bags. Rear side air bags are optional.
