  • Potential Number of Units Affected: 14416
  • Summary: VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING 14,416 MY 2007-2009 TOUAREG VEHICLES. THE FASTENING STRUTS ON THE ROOF EDGE SPOILER CAN CRACK, CAUSING THE SPOILER TO BECOME LOOSE AND POSSIBLY DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING, EVEN THOUGH INITIALLY THE SPOILER MAY FEEL SECURE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL REINFORCEMENT WEDGES TO THE ROOF EDGE SPOILER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY. OWNER MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

Warranty

The 2007 Touareg comes with a basic limited warranty, which includes coverage for four years or 50,000 miles. VW also supports the Touareg with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.

Though many reviewers agree with Auto Mall USA, which says, "the Volkswagen Touareg feels like a well-engineered vehicle carved from a single block," there are questions about the Touareg's reliability, attributable to Volkswagen's recent reputation for problems in this area. The Boston Herald sums up the view of many reviewers. "The Touareg's wild card -- and this is unfortunate -- is that when one is considering VWs these days, durability is, at best, an open question."
