Safety - What the Auto Press Says

In government crash tests, the 2009 Volvo S60 earns four out of five stars for protecting both front-seat occupants in a frontal-collision. The sedan does earn five of five in side-impact tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety got the opposite result, giving the mechanically-similar 2008 S60 top scores in frontal-impact testing, but only "Acceptable" scores for side-impact protection.

Standard equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active anti-whiplash headrests and anti-submarine seats at all seating positions.

Volvo's OnCall Telematics system will notify emergency services in the event of an accident, and can track the car if it is stolen.
