Volvo V60 Review

The 2015 Volvo V60 ranks 3 out of 10 Wagons. This ranking is based on our analysis of published reviews and test drives of the Volvo V60, as well as reliability and safety data.

Automotive journalists are delighted with the new 2015 Volvo V60 wagon’s strong acceleration and excellent fuel economy, but they note that it has a smaller cargo area than its competitors and lacks rear-seat legroom.

The 2015 Volvo V60 is a brand new wagon that comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and reviewers say it feels very powerful and has great acceleration off the line. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission that test drivers agree shifts smoothly. A turbocharged five-cylinder engine and a turbocharged six-cylinder engine are available. Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The base V60 gets an EPA-estimated 25/37 mpg city/highway, which is outstanding for a wagon. Automotive journalists are impressed with the V60’s comfortable ride and composed handling. They say the V60 corners with little body lean, especially with the optional sport chassis, and has accurate steering and strong brakes.

Reviewers are also impressed with the build quality of the new 2015 Volvo V60’s cabin, and they say it has a simple, yet stylish, design. However, they say the V60’s rear seat lacks legroom and its cargo area is small for a wagon. Standard features in the 2015 Volvo V60 include Volvo’s City Safety system, a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a USB input, satellite radio and Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system, which comes with a 7-inch display. Available features include navigation, adaptive cruise control, an automated parallel parking system, a remote starter, a 12-speaker surround-sound audio system, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system and a touch-screen version of the Sensus infotainment system called Sensus Connected. Other optional features include front and rear cameras and parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, driver distraction monitoring and a system that scans and responds to road signs.

  • "Best of all, the 2015 Volvo V60 T5 Drive-E is better than any Volvo wagon you remember thanks to a livelier, premium-quality personality and a new Drive-E powertrain that squeezes out more mpg from its engine without squeezing out the fun in the process." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "If you love the idea of a premium European wagon, but are put off by BMW's price, the Volvo V60 is the perfect alternative. Together with Volvo's stellar safety record, the eye-catching style pretty much seals the deal." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Wagons provide the carlike ride that many of us appreciate with the cargo-hauling versatility of a crossover or SUV. The Volvo V60 has an edge over the others with Volvo's long-standing heritage of innovative safety features behind it, blended with a calm, uncluttered interior." -- Cars.com
  • "If all wagons were like the V60 and had the performance driving dynamics with the practicality to justify its purchase, maybe the rebirth of the segment will come quicker than expected." -- Jalopnik

Unlike the V60, the 3-Series Sports Wagon comes standard with all-wheel drive and is available with a diesel engine that contributes to a class-leading, EPA-estimated 31/43 mpg city/highway. The 3-Series Sports Wagon also has a much larger cargo area than the V60.

The Volvo XC70 is about the same price as the V60, and it has the same reviewer-liked turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Its cargo area is more than 50 percent larger than the V60’s. Reviewers also like the XC70’s attractive, well-built interior.
