Used Car: 2011 Volvo XC60 Review

Review Last Updated: 7/16/12

The 2011 Volvo XC60 is one of the best family-oriented 2011 compact SUVs available, with good safety scores and plenty of space for passengers and cargo.

The 2011 Volvo XC60 is ranked:

When it was new, reviewers praised the XC60 for its abundance of safety features, available turbocharged engine and spacious, comfortable interior. The base XC60 has a 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower that some reviewers said felt a bit weak. They preferred the available turbocharged six-cylinder engine in the T6 model, which delivers 300 horsepower. Both front- and all-wheel drive are available, though the T6 model is AWD-only. The base model achieves an EPA-estimated 18/25 mpg city/highway, while opting for all-wheel drive drops that to 18/24 mpg. The T6 model gets 17/22 mpg. The XC60’s high safety ratings are typical for the class and its reliability score is slightly above-average.

Inside, reviewers said that the seats are very comfortable, though some noted the back seat is a bit short on legroom. That’s a common complaint for the class, however. Maximum cargo capacity is 67.4 cubic feet, which is especially large for the class. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD radio and leatherette upholstery. Also standard is Volvo’s City Safety system, which works to reduce low-speed collisions. Available features include leather upholstery, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate and adaptive cruise control. An available R-Design package adds sporty exterior and interior cosmetic upgrades. The XC60 has been around since 2010, so you may be able to save some money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Infiniti EX is a good alternative if you’re looking for a 2011 compact SUV with sporty performance. Its limited cargo and passenger space mean it’s not the greatest choice for families, but its powerful engine means it’s a good choice for those who want a sports car but need something a bit more practical.

Another alternative to the XC60 is the 2011 Acura RDX. Its engine isn’t the most powerful, but its handling is sportier than that of the Volvo. It also has an abundance of technology, standard features and generally comfortable seats, making it a strong choice for families.
