Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The XC90 is widely regarded as one of the safest luxury SUVs on the market. The federal government gives the 2010 model top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. It also gives the XC90 four-star rollover scores, which means the AWD and FWD models have only a 17 and 19 percent risk of rollover, respectively, in single vehicle crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety names the 2010 model a "Top Safety Pick" for receiving top scores of "Good" in front, side, rear crash protection and roof strength tests. Rear park assist is newly standard for 2010.

  • "Offering unmatched safety in its segment, the XC90 comes loaded with safety features. One notable feature, especially on an SUV, is the standard Roll Stability Control, which attempts to stop a rollover once it's started by cutting torque and applying individual brakes. There's also a lower frontcross member that provides for safer SUV-to-car impacts." -- Cars.com
  • "Standard safety features on the 2010 Volvo XC90 include antilock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and anti-whiplash front seats. The optional blind spot warning system monitors vehicles entering the XC90's blind spots, alerting the driver via indicator lights." --  Edmunds
