Best Honda Deals: February 2010 Lease and Purchase
Last Updated: Feb. 03, 2010
The auto industry had a tough year, but December ended with a bang. In particular, Asian automakers saw the biggest increases in sales. In fact, Honda Motor Co. posted a 24 percent increase over December 2008, according to the latest sales figures. Business Week reports that Honda “moved ahead of Chrysler in annual U.S. sales for the first time, taking the No. 4 ranking.”
But good sales for Honda mean less negotiating room for car buyers. The automaker has announced its January/February lease and purchase deals, and there are far fewer than last month.
In December, buyers willing to finance could have gotten deals on a number of popular models, including the all-new Accord Crosstour, Insight hybrid, Civic sedan and Fit hatchback. Those deals aren't available in January.
Instead, Honda is offering lease deals on a few models through March 1. This is still good news – but only for people who want to lease. The cheapest deal is the Honda Civic, which is available for just $159 per month for 36 months if you lease a DX-VP model. Plus, Honda has lowered the amount due at signing from $1,899 to just $1,399. That makes the Civic a very affordable proposition.
Of course, if you’re shopping a lease on the Civic, you’ll want to compare it to the Toyota Corolla. Note that Toyota is offering lease deals on the Corolla for as low as $140 per month for 36 months, depending on the region you buy it in. The amount due at signing varies, and it’s likely to be more than what Honda is asking.
If you’d rather buy a vehicle, Honda is still throwing you a bone, but it’s a small one. The Honda Odyssey minivan and Pilot SUV are both available with 1.9 percent APR financing for 36 months or 2.9 percent APR for 60 months.
If you plan to buy a car any time within the next year, now is the time to act. Analysts are reporting that auto sales will recover slowly in 2010, which means incentives will gradually decline. Honda has already majorly scaled back its deals as compared to last month. So get in the showroom and start negotiating – this may not be a buyer’s market for long.
