Volkswagen Black Turbo Beetle Now Available for Pre-Order

Volkswagen introduced a new vehicle pre-order program Monday in conjunction with the launch of a special edition 2012 Beetle. In a press release, VW says the 2012 Black Turbo launch edition Beetle will only be available through the pre-order program.

Only 600 Black Turbo Beetles will be sold. Volkswagen requires a $495 reservation fee for the special edition Beetle, which will go toward the final purchase price. VW says it is offering a no hassle refund policy if shoppers decide not to buy the special edition model.

Beetle buyers can sign up on VW’s site (www.VW.com/preorder) to reserve one of the 600 Black Turbo Beetles. Buyers will then select a dealer for delivery, review all program details and then pay the reservation fee, Kelley Blue Book reports.

The Black Turbo Beetle has an MSRP of $25,720 (including delivery) and features a turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, which AutoWeek says is the same output as the regular turbo Beetle and Volkswagen GTI.

The 2012 Black Turbo Beetle has standard Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, three-color ambient lighting, larger brakes with red calipers, a “kaeferfach” additional glovebox that is reminiscent of the original Beetle, 18-inch alloy wheels, alloy pedals and eight-speaker sound system.

VW says the Black Turbo Beetle achieves the same 30 mpg EPA-estimated highway rating as the base Beetle with an automatic transmission, but did not give the city fuel rating, which is 22 mpg on the base 2012 Beetle.

Volkswagen says the new 2012 Beetle will hit dealerships in September, and starts at $19,765 with a destination charge. The base Beetle features a standard 2.5-liter 170-horsepower five-cylinder engine, which will be followed by the introduction of a 2.0-liter turbodiesel model, Road & Track reports.
