BMW Recalls 2011 X3 for Power Steering Fix
Last week, we reported that BMW recalled a small number of 2011 X5s for power steering problems, and now the automaker is recalling a handful of X3 SUVs. “BMW is recalling certain model year 2011 X3 passenger vehicles manufactured from April 27, 2011, through June 8, 2011,” reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Unlike the BMW X5 recall, which was due to possible cracks in the welds of the SUV’s belt tensioner, the X3 recall involves a control module in the electronic power steering system which could malfunction, resulting in a sudden loss of power steering.
No accidents or injuries have been reported. Inside Line says that just 50 BMW X3s are subject to the recall, which is expected to begin this month. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will repair the affected vehicles free of charge. Concerned owners can contact BMW customer relations and services at (800) 525-7417.
