Honda Hosts Surprise Parade for Owner of Million-Mile Accord

Most drivers log about 14,000 miles annually. Joe LoCicero of Maine drives that far in about three months.

Honda announced in a press release that it hosted a surprise parade for “Million Mile Joe” to commemorate passing the million-mile landmark in his 1990 Honda Accord. Joe knew he was going to be presented an oversized key to a new 2012 Honda Accord from Ms. Maine, Ashley Marble, at a news conference, but knew nothing of the parade beforehand.

“The one-block parade in Saco, Maine, featured color guard and marching bands from local middle and high schools. … One float was a giant odometer powered by six people spinning human-sized hamster wheels,” said Motor Trend. There was also an airplane pulling a large banner congratulating Joe.

The Huffington Post reported that LoCicero, a former mechanic, bought his Accord in 1996 with 74,000 miles already on the clock.

Joe started keeping detailed records of his mileage journey around the 300,000 mile mark, according to Honda’s press release. He drives an average of 62,500 miles a year, and has taken more than 661 pictures of his odometer.

Honda has been keeping up with “Million Mile Joe” on its Facebook page, where users could follow his journey and see photos and video from the parade.
