Mitsubishi i will be on Sale Nationally by Summer
The Mitsubishi i electric car will go on sale nationwide by this summer. The i, which is currently available for test drives in Washington, Hawaii, Oregon and California, will be available for test drives in the remaining 46 states by March, Mitsubishi says in a statement, and will be available for purchase by the summer. Mitsubishi is pushing up the national launch of its electric car nine months ahead of schedule.
Though dealers in only four states are currently accepting orders for the Mitsubishi i, Autoblog Green reports that Mitsubishi has already “sold 76 i vehicles in the U.S. last month, the first full month of domestic sales.”
The Mitsubishi i is America’s most fuel-efficient car, as it tops the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2012 Fuel Economy Guide with a 112 mile per gallon-equivalent (mpg-e) rating. By comparison, the Nissan Leaf has a mpg-e rating of 99. However, the Leaf has a range of 73 miles on a fully-charged battery, whereas the i’s range is only 62 miles.
The 2012 Mitsubishi i starts at $29,125 before government tax credits.
