2013 Fiat 500L Debuts in Geneva
Recently, we told you that the 2013 Fiat 500L was set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Now that the automotive press has had a chance to check out the new FIAT, many have started to offer their impression of the new small car.
With its extra space and retro style, many compare the 500L with Mini’s four-door upscale small car. Autoblog writes, “The family-minded Cinquecento has a roofline that apes that of the Mini Countryman, but like the 500, there should be no lack of customizability, including a whopping 30 different paint colors.”
The 500L also offers a bit more passenger space than the two-door Fiat 500, as well as the four-seat Countryman. “The main draw of the 500L, of course, is size,” writes USA Today. “Long enough for four doors and five people instead of the basic 500's four passengers, the L -- for ‘large’ ( but only in comparison to the basic 500) -- could qualify as a family car for people not fussy about personal space.”
Pricing and full specs have yet to be announced, but if the 500L plans to steal sales from the Mini Countryman, the new FIAT may need a shot of adrenaline before it hits showrooms next year. Motor Trend says “we can only hope for more power to be bestowed upon the U.S.-bound 500L models, as the base Countryman has about 20 horsepower on the Fiat.”
