2013 Lexus RX and RX Hybrid Revealed
Lexus pulled the wraps off the refreshed 2013 Lexus RX SUV Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show. The new RX 350 and RX 450h hybrid are expected to hit dealer lots soon. “The 2013s unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show today will be at U.S. dealers next month,” says USA Today. “They still seat five and carry over the 2012 gas and hybrid powertrains available with front- or all-wheel drive.”
While the powertrains and basic interior layout don’t see any changes, the 2013 RX gets more standard equipment, along with exterior and interior styling updates. Thanks to a new front end and bumper, as well as a new headlamp design, the face-lifted RX’s mug now looks similar to the 2013 Lexus GS. The redesigned RX also gets updates to the taillamps and rear license plate surround. Notable standard features include a power liftgate and USB/iPod integration, which were optional on the 2012 model.
Inside, the 2013 RX sees changes which include a redesigned steering wheel and center console, new Ebony Bird’s-Eye Maple wood trim and contrast stitching on the leather seats, center console and armrests, Lexus says in a press release. An optional leather interior includes contrast stitching on the armrests, center console and seats.
In addition to its refreshed style, the 2013 RX 350 and RX 450h add an optional navigation system which Lexus says is more intuitive. Consumer Reports writes, “We hope this will address some of our criticisms with the current controls, as we found ordinary tasks took too much attention and the driver's eyes from the road.”
Although official pricing on the new luxury midsize SUV hasn’t been announced, the 2013 Lexus RX is expected to ring in for about the same price as the 2012 model. “Expect a front-wheel-drive 2013 RX 350 to start around $40,000, with all-wheel drive models commanding an extra $1400,” says Automobile Magazine. “Front-wheel drive 2013 RX 450h models should sticker around $46,000, while all-wheel-drive models could ring in at close to $48,000.”
