2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK Details Revealed
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show next month, but Mercedes-Benz has released some details about the refreshed SUV ahead of time. The GLK-Class is an upscale compact SUV with seating for five, and gets some fairly significant revisions for the 2013 model year.
According to a press release, next year’s GLK will offer a diesel powertrain, further growing Mercedes’ BlueTec lineup. The new 2.1-liter four-cylinder BlueTec diesel engine will make 190 horsepower and an impressive 369 pound-feet of torque. The SUV’s gas-powered V6 engine will also receive a power bump to 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, up from 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Though that sounds a lot more powerful than the diesel engine, the diesel’s ample torque will make the SUV feel quick when starting from a stop, so most drivers likely won’t notice the power deficit.
The 2013 GLK also gets a minor facelift, with a revised front end and an optional AMG appearance package. “The chunky styling that distinguished the last GLK has now been softened, with a curvy new fascia setting a more graceful tone,” writes Car and Driver. “This restyled schnoz also brings the GLK’s look in line with the appearance of other new Mercedes models, such as the M-class crossover.”
Most of the 2013 GLK’s updates can be found on the outside or under the hood, but the interior does receive a few new styling touches. “The interior has likewise been updated, with those SLS AMG-derived retro air vents dominating the restyled dashboard and the gearshift lever moving to a stalk on the steering column in similar fashion to other recent Three-Pointed Star vehicles,” reports Autoblog.
The gas-powered 2013 GLK350 will arrive at dealerships this summer, according to Motor Trend, while the GLK 250 BlueTec won’t make it to the U.S. until early 2013. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the new GLK will likely cost a bit more than the current model, which starts at $35,880.
