Investigation into Jeep Fires Expanded

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has expanded and upgraded its investigation into the cause of fuel tank fires in about 5.1 million Jeep SUVs built between 1993 and 2007. “NHTSA said it has records of 15 fatalities and 46 injuries in crashes that included fuel-tank failures,” reports The Wall Street Journal. Infiniti Announces 2013 Lineup Changes

Infiniti recently announced that the entry-level G25 sedan would be dropped from its lineup for the 2013 model year. Infiniti says the move simplifies the G lineup, which will carry on with just the G37 sedan, coupe and convertible, as well as the performance-oriented IPL G Coupe and new-for-2013 IPL G Convertible. Chrysler Group Expands Jeep Liberty Recall, Honda Recalls 2012 Civic

Honda and Chrysler Group issued separate recalls this week for the 2012 Civic sedan and 2004 to 2007 Jeep Liberty SUVs. Chrysler Group expanded a recall issued in March, which initially applied to Jeep Liberty models from the 2004 and 2005 model years. Now, 2006 and 2007 Liberty models are included. Volkswagen announced pricing this week for the diesel-powered 2013 Beetle TDI, which will go on sale in August. Starting at $24,065 (including a $770 destination charge), the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI will carry the automaker’s 2.0-liter, turbocharged diesel engine, which generates 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. BMW 3-Series, Chevrolet Malibu Earn NHTSA's Top Safety Rating

The 2012 BMW 3-Series sedan and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Eco received five-star overall safety ratings from the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
