2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Priced at $21,995

Subaru announced pricing for its newest affordable compact SUV, the 2013 XV Crosstrek, on its website. With a base price of $21,995 (excluding destination charges), the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek starts at $1,000 more than the new 2013 Mazda CX-5 and $475 less than the redesigned 2013 Ford Escape.

The base XV Crosstrek Premium comes standard with all-wheel drive, a 148-horsepower four-cylinder boxer engine and a five-speed manual transmission. Exterior accents include features like fog lights, roof rails and alloy wheels, while the interior has a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth and a USB port. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional.

Limited models start at $24,495, and add leather-trimmed seats, automatic climate control, a backup camera, an upgraded touch-screen stereo and heated front seats. The XV Crosstrek Limited also includes the CVT as standard equipment.

The EPA reports that the XV Crosstrek gets 23/30 and 25/33 mpg city/highway with manual and CVT transmissions, respectively. When equipped with the CVT, the XV Crosstrek’s ratings are slightly better than all-wheel drive versions of the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Escape, which get up to 25/31 and 22/30 mpg, in that order.

The XV Crosstrek shares its platform with the 2013 Subaru Impreza. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes that along with exterior enhancements, the main differences between the Impreza and XV Crosstrek “are that the Crosstrek is about four inches taller, giving it more of a crossover appearance, and it has the 8.7 inches of ground clearance, or nearly three inches more than the Impreza’s 5.9 inches.”

Edmunds notes that the XV Crosstrek is priced similarly to the 2013 Subaru Forester, which starts at $21,295. The 2013 Subaru Crosstrek goes on sale this fall.
