Honda Releases Images of Redesigned 2013 Accord

Honda unveiled photos of its redesigned 2013 Accord sedan and coupe, which are slated to go on sale this fall. In Wednesday’s news release, the automaker says the Accord “delivers an even more spacious and luxurious passenger cabin wrapped in an upscale, sophisticated exterior designed to stand the test of time.”

Honda says the Accord sedan and coupe have a new grille, and that their shorter length will make them easier to park and help them deliver sportier performance compared with the 2012 Accord. According to Honda, these exterior updates won’t encroach on driver and passenger comfort. Optional exterior features include LED daytime running lights, taillights and headlights.

Some members of the automotive press don’t think the Accord’s design is revolutionary. “The design is obviously new, but it isn’t a radical departure from the current model or the concept we saw earlier this year on the auto-show circuit,” says Kicking Tires.

The 2013 Accord will enter the market with several other redesigned midsize cars, such as the Mazda6, Nissan Altima sedan and Ford Fusion. The New York Times thinks the 2013 Accord faces a tough crowd. “Though the Accord brings a sterling reputation and a considerable amount of owner loyalty to bear on this critical market segment, the improved quality and daring designs of some competitors could mean success is not necessarily the given that it once was.”

Honda hasn’t released pricing data for the 2013 Accord or full specs and available features yet. The 2012 Honda Accord starts at $21,480 before destination charges.
