Lawmakers, Advocates Push to Make Back Up Cameras Standard

The Detroit News reports that Peter King, a Republican representative from New York and Jan Schakowsky, a Democratic representative from Illinois, are pushing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to finalize regulations to make backup cameras standard on new cars. Auto Repair Costs are on the Rise

Car Repair Cost Increases By Region Your car is getting more expensive to fix, at least according to the 2013 CarMD Vehicle Health Index. The study found that for the first time in six years, the average repair cost rose 10 percent to $367.84 on 1996 to 2012 model year vehicles. Replacement part prices went up six percent in 2012, while labor charges rose 17 percent. Silverado and Sierra Pricing Revealed

General Motors last week revealed pricing data and some engine and towing specifications for the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 full-size pickups. In a pair of press releases, GM announced that the Silverado 1500 will start at $23,590, excluding $995 destination, while the Sierra 1500 will start at $24,090 before destination. Better Fuel Economy Could Mean Worse Tires

Power and Associates last Thursday shows that car buyers are not happy with the run-flat and low-rolling resistance tires automakers use to improve fuel efficiency. According to the study, run-flat tires, commonly used on performance sport cars and luxury vehicles, have about a 6,000-mile shorter life span than standard tires.
