2014 Honda Accord Hybrid Pricing and Shipping Date Announced
In its announcement, Honda writes, "Fuel prices can be scary, but the EPA-rated 50 mpg city 2014 Accord Hybrid will take some of the fright out of going to the gas pump when it debuts at U.S. dealers nationwide on Halloween (October 31)."
The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid will have three trims when it goes on sale: The Accord Hybrid, the Accord Hybrid EX-L and the Accord Hybrid Touring. Even the base model will have an expansive list of standard features, including a rearview camera, Honda's LaneWatch blind spot display system, Bluetooth phone connectivity (including connectivity to mobile applications like Pandora music streaming), a USB port, and SMS text messaging. Additional features on the EX-L model include forward collision warning, leather seats and cloud-based media connectivity. The Touring model adds features like navigation and adaptive cruise control. The Touring model starts at $34,905, plus the $790 destination charge.
Kicking Tires says, "All models share the same mileage ratings, an EPA-estimated 50/45 mpg city/highway; Honda says it's the highest among four-door sedans." The Ford Fusion Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 47/47 mpg city/highway, which is the next best in the class. The Toyota Camry Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 43/39 mpg city/highway, and the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has EPA estimates of 36/40 mpg city/highway. However, Ford and Hyundai have faced complaints from consumers about real-world fuel economy of some of their models not matching EPA estimates.
Beyond the Accord Hybrid's fuel economy, Autoblog writes that it is "notable how much Honda was able to trim off the Accord Hybrid's price when compared to the Accord Plug-In. That car starts at $39,780, meaning the Hybrid variant is over $10,000 less, while matching that PHEV's 47-mpg combined rating."
