2015 Cadillac Escalade Unveiled
In a press release, Cadillac says, “Much of the story of Cadillac’s redesigned flagship SUV is on the interior, where new levels of luxury combine with the latest technology.” Cadillac’s CUE infotainment and connectivity system will be standard on the 2015 Escalade. The system can sync with popular smartphones and tablets, and features an 8-inch color screen. Users can use gestures and swiping motions to control CUE. Optional features will include a head-up display and a Blu-ray DVD player for the rear seats.
The 2015 Cadillac Escalade will feature a 6.2-liter V8 engine, which Cadillac says is more efficient than past engines. The V8 will make 420 horsepower and will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
USA Today says the Escalade is significant to Cadillac for “its profits and its image. Big SUVs, because they're derived from pickups, cost less to build than other models but can be sold at high prices. Escalade's also an icon for some segments of pop culture, which helps steer the Cadillac brand away from the ‘fogey’ label.”
On the other hand, CNET isn’t sure this new Escalade will be enough to make the Cadillac brand feel more youthful. “Fans of the Escalade will appreciate the automaker's sticking with the original message and not ‘ruining’ its former flagship, but if you already think the giant luxury SUV is a relic of the past, there's nothing in the 2015 Escalade that will convince you that it's anything but an old dog that's learned a few cool new tricks.”
The 2015 Cadillac Escalade will go on sale in the first half of 2014. Pricing has not been announced.
Do you think the 2015 Escalade has what it takes to uphold the model’s reputation and bring more buyers to Cadillac?
