The 2015 Kia K900, which debuted Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, will be Kia’s first flagship sedan when it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2014.

Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Kia Motors America, says in a statement that the K900 exemplifies Kia’s continued U.S. growth since it started selling vehicles here almost 20 years ago. “Kia’s rise over the last five years has been fueled by a willingness to challenge the status quo with vehicles such as the Optima, Sorento and Cadenza, which have brought new and more affluent customers to our showrooms and dramatically raised the profile of the brand while maintaining our value proposition,” Sprague says.

The Los Angeles Times points out that Kia’s progression in recent years has translated into growing sales. “Since then, Kias have evolved into sharply designed vehicles whose popularity has grown quickly. Kia sales, though down slightly year-to-date, more than doubled from 2008 to 2012; last year, the brand reported it sold 557,559 vehicles in the U.S.”

The rear-wheel drive 2015 Kia K900 will have either a 311-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine or a 420-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine. Both engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Autoblog writes, “Visually, the K900 is a handsome thing, looking sort of like a puffed-up version of the smaller Forte or Cadenza sedans.”
