Audi Unveils A3 TDI Sportback at NY Auto Show
Audi announced on Wednesday that it is bringing the diesel-powered A3 TDI Sportback stateside following "an outpouring of enthusiasts’ support." The diesel-powered A3 hatchback joins the recently-redesigned A3 sedan, as well as the hybrid A3 e-tron Sportback, a convertible variant and a high-performance S3 sedan, which will all "be introduced over the next 18 months," says Audi.
The A3 TDI Sportback has a 150-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Audi has not said whether or not the TDI Sportback will be available with all-wheel drive.
Audi hasn't yet stated how much torque the A3 TDI Sportback's diesel engine produces or what its fuel economy rating might be, but Car and Driver believes that the new model's fuel economy will surpass the previous model's EPA rating of 30/42 mpg city/highway.
The 2016 Audi A3 TDI Sportback will hit showrooms in summer 2015. Pricing information has yet to be announced, but for reference, the gas-powered A3 sedan starts at $29,990.
