Acura's brand new upscale midsize car, the 2015 TLX, will start at $31,890 (including $895 for destination) when it goes on sale next month. The TLX replaces both the TSX and TL sedans, which are discontinued after the 2014 model year.

An entry-level TLX comes with front-wheel drive, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 206 horsepower and an eight-speed automated manual transmission. TLX V6 models, which have a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 and a nine-speed automatic, start at $36,115 for a front-wheel drive version, while all-wheel drive models start at $42,345. All-wheel drive is only available on V6 models that have either the Technology or Advance Package. The base TLX costs $360 more than an entry-level 2014 TSX, while an all-wheel drive TLX costs $1,860 less than a comparably-equipped 2014 TL.

According to Acura, a four-cylinder TLX will return 24/35 mpg city/highway, which is better than the four-cylinder 2014 TSX's 22/31 mpg ratings. The V6 model is rated as high as 21/34 mpg, Acura says, which is better than the 20/29 mpg ratings of a comparably equipped 2014 TL.

A rearview camera, proximity key and push-button start are standard. Available features include adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring and Siri Eyes Free, which allows the driver to use voice commands to control various iPhone functions. Other available features include Bluetooth, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker Acura/ELS stereo system and USB connectivity.

Car and Driver notes that the TLX has about the same interior space as the outgoing TL, even though it is physically a bit smaller. It adds, "… the TLX is right-sized and could be the best-looking Acura sedan in years."
