BMW 3-Series, Chevrolet Malibu Earn NHTSA's Top Safety Rating

The 2012 BMW 3-Series sedan and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Eco received five-star overall safety ratings from the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2012 BMW 3-Series sedan earned five out of five stars in side crash tests and rollover risk tests, and four stars in front crash tests. 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Recalled for Airbag Issue

General Motors is recalling 4,304 Chevrolet Malibus from the 2013 model year to reprogram a component of the car’s airbag system. Under hard braking, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) could reset, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. “If the module resets itself during aggressive turning and then a potential rollover is sensed, the side curtain airbags may deploy unintentionally,” Kicking Tires reports. 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco Pricing Announced

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will start at $25,995 when it goes on sale in early 2012, including the destination fee. Chevrolet says in a statement the 2013 Malibu Eco should get 26/38 mpg city/highway using General Motors’ eAssist mild hybrid system. The gas-only 2012 Malibu gets an EPA-estimated 22/33 mpg city/highway with the four-cylinder engine and 17/26 mpg with the V6.
