Study: Rearview Cameras Help Prevent More Collisions than Rear Sensors

Nissan Versa Note Rearview Camera A recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that rearview cameras may be better than rear parking sensors at preventing collisions when a vehicle is reversing. According to the study, in some cases, rearview cameras alone prevented more collisions than rearview cameras paired with parking sensors. Honda Receives Most Awards in New IIHS Safety Ratings

2014 Acura MDX IIHS test Honda and its luxury brand, Acura, took home the most 2014 Top Safety Pick Plus awards of any automaker from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. 2014 Corolla Latest Toyota to Earn Low Rating in Difficult New Crash Test

IIHS Adds Tests of Crash Prevention Systems

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is adding an evaluation of automatic crash prevention systems to its criteria for a Top Safety Pick+ award. In a press release, the IIHS says that the rating includes models equipped with forward collision warning and autonomous braking systems. The new tests evaluate how effective these systems are at reducing speeds and preventing a front-to-rear collision with another vehicle at speeds of 12 and 25 mph. 2014 Honda Odyssey First Minivan to Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

2014 Honda Odyssey The 2014 Honda Odyssey was just named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is the first minivan to earn that award. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must earn the top rating of Good in the moderate overlap front, side, rollover and rear impact tests, and at least Acceptable in the small overlap front test.
