The 2012 BMW 3-Series sedan and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Eco received five-star overall safety ratings from the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2012 BMW 3-Series sedan earned five out of five stars in side crash tests and rollover risk tests, and four stars in front crash tests. BMW 3-Series, Acura RDX Given IIHS Top Safety Pick Status

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the redesigned 2012 BMW 3-Series midsize sedan and 2013 Acura RDX crossover SUV Top Safety Picks. Small Cars Earn Top Safety Ratings

The 2012 Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra earned the highest overall safety rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition, the 2012 Nissan Versa was recently named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The IIHS categorizes the Versa sedan as a minicar. Safety Technology Takes Years to Trickle into Most Cars

Crash avoidance safety features, like lane departure warning systems, that are available in some luxury vehicles could significantly decrease the number of vehicle accidents, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI). But it can take at least three decades for safety features like these to be on 95 percent of vehicles that are on the road.
