Mitsubishi i Electric Car Receives Four-Star Government Safety Rating

The all-electric 2012 Mitsubishi i earned a four-star overall safety rating from the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The subcompact car also received four out of five stars in front crash tests and rollover tests, and a lower three-star rating in side crash tests. NHTSA gives the 2013 i the same safety scores. Mitsubishi i will be on Sale Nationally by Summer

The Mitsubishi i electric car will go on sale nationwide by this summer. The i, which is currently available for test drives in Washington, Hawaii, Oregon and California, will be available for test drives in the remaining 46 states by March, Mitsubishi says in a statement, and will be available for purchase by the summer. Mitsubishi Raises Price for Electric Car

Though the Mitsubishi i hasn’t hit dealerships yet, Mitsubishi is already increasing its price. Back in April, the automaker announced that its first electric car would start at $27,990, and customers would be able to knock that price down to $20,490 after a $7,500 federal tax credit. Mitsubishi to Build Plug-in Hybrid SUV

The hybrid and electric vehicle race is heating up, as more automakers announce plans to bring a plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicle to market. Mitsubishi, whose i-MiEV electric car is scheduled to go on sale later this year, has plans to build a plug-in hybrid SUV.
