Test Drive: 2012 Mini JCW Coupe

Every time I got out of the 2012 Mini John Cooper Works Coupe, I looked back in amazement. It wasn’t the Mini’s thrilling performance that got my attention, but the fact that I was so comfortable inside this diminutive affordable sports car. At 6’1”, I had plenty of leg- and shoulder room, as well as adequate headroom, and most passengers liked the Mini Coupe’s comfortable, supportive seats. However, the interior isn’t all gumdrops and pony ... continue reading»

Test Drive: 2012 Hyundai Genesis

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis I tested over the holidays was difficult for me to give back. I was impressed with almost everything about this upscale midsize car, except for the fact that there is no all-wheel drive option. My 300-mile drive from Northern Virginia to Ohio to go home for Christmas took me through the mountains in Pennsylvania. I kept my fingers crossed that it wouldn’t snow, since the Genesis is a rear-wheel drive car. My test car was ... continue reading»

2012 Hyundai Accent: Practical, but Mediocre

Since its redesign for 2012, the Hyundai Accent has leapt from the bottom of the affordable small car class to the top 10. Kia Sportage SX: A Luxury Compact SUV Alternative

I’ve tested a fair share of fancy SUVs, which makes it really easy to nitpick affordable SUVS that aren’t nearly as snazzy as their luxury counterparts. But the 2012 Kia Sportage SX I tested surprised me. It’s a less expensive, well-made, amenity-filled alternative to luxury compact SUVs that are so easy to fall in love with. In the Sportage SX, you can get a lot of the same features at an affordable price compared with models like ... continue reading»

Test Drive: 2012 Toyota Camry

After a week in the redesigned 2012 Toyota Camry, I could not get over how big this midsize sedan is. My test car was a 2012 Camry XLE, which is the highest trim level of the new Camry lineup, excluding the Camry Hybrid. Toyota says it increased interior space in the 2012 Camry, and if you need lots of room in your next midsize sedan, the Camry has it. Not only is the back seat enormous, but the trunk is ... continue reading»
