Test Drive: 2012 Mercedes-Benz C250 Coupe

Mercedes-Benz introduced the first coupe to its C-Class lineup this year, and there’s not much I dislike about this car. My test car, a 2012 C250 Coupe, was not only fun to drive, but also fuel-efficient. After two road trips and more than 100 miles, I was able to achieve fuel economy of 19/30 mpg city/highway, which is slightly less than the EPA’s 21/31 mpg city/highway estimate. The C250 Coupe has a 1.8-liter ... continue reading»

Test Drive: 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist

I got my first chance to drive the 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist in October. After posting my initial impressions, a reader commented that he was disappointed with his test drive. He cited tight seats and poor rearward visibility as his chief complaints, and was let down because he waited months for the eAssist’s release. Well, after a week of driving the 2012 LaCrosse eAssist, it turns out that I agree with his concerns about the visibility. My test car ... continue reading»

Test Drive: 2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic

Maybe it was the Black Friday madness, but the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic had me thinking about economics. I’ve spent roughly half my salary on a new car in the past, but my test S550 has a sticker price of roughly $118,000. Do people who make $240,000 a year splurge on a big-bodied Benz? If not, perhaps better financial sense is the reason they make more money than me. Or maybe there’s just a ridiculously-awesome S-Class ... continue reading»

Rolls-Royce 102EX: The Electric Phantom

There’s something decadent about rolling past an Occupy D.C. protest in a Rolls-Royce. But I wasn’t just driving any Rolls-Royce. This was the Rolls-Royce 102EX, an all-electric concept car that will never go into production. Granted, I only got it for 30 closely-supervised minutes. During that time, I failed to meet my personal goal of blasting Wu-Tang Clan on the stereo, but for most of us, life is all about compromise, and that’s exactly what Rolls-Royce ... continue reading»

Test Drive: 2012 Honda Pilot Touring

Last week, I tested a 2012 Honda Pilot Touring in and around Washington, D.C. I didn’t get a chance to utilize all of its 87 cubic feet of cargo space since the biggest thing I hauled was a new iMac, but I still managed to get a good picture of the Pilot as a family vehicle. The first thing I noticed was that anyone who plans to use all three rows of seats while making a big grocery ... continue reading»
