Consumer Affairs reports, "Consumer Reports' annual list of the 11 worst cars in America is out. Automotive analysts for the magazine took a look at more than 260 vehicles in this year's evaluation and once again SUVs made in the U.S. dominated the field."
California CBS affiliate KPIX adds, "There were a number of Toyota models, usually the strong players, at the bottom of the field as well." Jeep was the manufacturer with the most entries on the list - the Liberty Sport, Patriot Limited and Wrangler Unlimited, all cited for low build quality. CNN Money notes that the Wrangler "gets the lowest score of any vehicle the magazine currently rates."
The Toyota Yaris made the list. KPIX explains, "The Yaris is one of the most popular subcompacts in the world but its poor acceleration and vague steering meant it was one of the worst cars in this year's compare." CNN Money adds, "It actually ranks at the top of the list in both reliability and low cost of ownership, but those factors are not included in Consumer Reports' basic vehicle score."
Toyota's FJ Cruiser made the list as well. KPIX reports that the FJ cruiser was included because of "poor fit and finish and subpar ride and handling." CNN Money adds, "The FJ Cruiser scored well in reliability and for off-road performance, but neither of those factors is included in Consumer Reports' numerical score."
