More Electric Supercars Planned

The AP reports, "A niche car manufacturer from California believes that virtually all automakers will install super-efficient lithium-ion batteries in hybrid vehicles within a decade, but that their slowness opens up a booming market for a range of greener cars."  Fisker Automotive has developed a plug-in hybrid sports car that it claims "can travel 50 miles on a single battery charge."  According to the automaker, its Fisker Karma "has a top speed of 125 miles per hour and can go from 0-60 mph in six seconds."  The car will compete with "U.S. rivals Tesla Motors [which we covered here] and Visionary Vehicles for a share of the electric sports car market."

Britain's Crash says the Karma is "quick, it's pretty (from the side and back at least) and it's likely to be rare, with prices starting at $80,000 for a 2010 delivery."

Auto Express offers computer-generated images of a potential British rival, the Lightning GT.  The "electric supercar" will reportedly "deliver the equivalent of 700bhp."
