AutoWeek publishes spy photos of the upcoming Mini Crossman, a…well…an off-road Mini? “The Crossman, which has the familiar Mini silhouette, will be fitted with all-wheel drive and have higher ride height--the better to tackle unpaved roads,” according to AutoWeek.
Autoblog comments that the Crossman seems like “a rolling contradiction in terms.” Though it’s hard to imagine a Mini actually off-roading, Autoblog notes, “INI may not have much trouble moving curb-busting Coopers off of dealers' lots, as many enthusiasts will likely be drawn to the availability of all-wheel drive on a MINI for the first time. Not only that, this vehicle could be one of the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicles on the market in the U.S., save for the Suzuki SX-5, and there's something to be said for that.”
Jalopnik says the off-road Mini will “appeal to that all important ‘I'm not driving a Mini because I'd look...yeah’ male demographic.”
No word on whether the Crossman will repeat the Cooper’s success on FaceBook.
