The 2009 Mazda6 has broken cover.  Kicking Tires reports, "The changes are significant since Americans will get a larger car inside and out with a powerful V-6 option, and a different interior."  The 6 will be available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder at about 170 horsepower, or the 3.7-liter V6 that currently powers the CX-9, at 273 hp.  "Fans of manual transmissions get a six-speed manual. A five-speed automatic is also available. Both automatics come with a manual shift feature."

Motor Trend reports, "Mazda says that is has made what it calls unparalleled reductions in road noise and vibrations that, along with its trademark driving dynamics and road feel, will help set the Mazda6 apart from the competition in the midsize sedan market."

Autoblog says the 6 "gets a bisected grille and has its foglamps pushed out to the corners below the bumper," as well as "a completely different trunk, rear bumper, and exhaust treatment that's more appealing than the plainer setup Japanese and Europeans get."

However, a Mazda press release notes that "the 2009 MAZDA6 will be available only as a four-door sedan," so wagon and hatchback models seen overseas apparently won't be coming here.
