The AP reports, "Toyota plans to recall about 90,000 Highlander sport utility vehicles in the United States. The Japanese automaker wants to fix a problem that could prevent the seat belt in a third-row seat from securing a rear-facing child seat." The recall will affect vehicles built between May 2007 and March 2008, and applies to both gasoline- and hybrid-powered Highlanders.
Bloomberg adds, "Toyota will begin notifying owners in June and has asked dealers to stop selling affected models until the problem is fixed."
The problem has not led to any complaints or injuries. Toyota dealers will install a re-designed part to fix the defect, free of charge.
