Car dealers are shameless. This isn't news to you. Still, we were a little surprised by the speed of this one:
A Dallas-area Kia dealership is using presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama to sell small SUVs. CNN explains, "'Even ordinary folks like you can buy a Kia! Yes you can!' says the Obama impersonator in a television commercial for Dallas-Ft. Worth area-based Central Kia, which uses a logo that resembles the Obama campaign's."
The Dallas Morning News adds, "On Wednesday night - the last day the commercials were to air - one version led off Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, exposing the clip to the rest of the country." Stewart, in mock indignation, insists that appearing on television to hock cars "is an honor that we have only bestowed on Presidents Washington and Lincoln."
Watch Stewart lambaste the ads on Kicking Tires.
The Kia Sportage that Fauxbama is selling in the ads, we'll point out, gets 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway -- not bad for a small SUV, but not much different from the 18/26 of the Chrysler 300 that Obama drove before he ran for President. On entering the race, we should note, he shrewdly traded it in for a Ford Escape Hybrid getting 34/30 mpg.
You might think that the Democratic candidate wouldn't like to be caught selling foreign-made SUVs right now, but you'd be surprised -- our research shows that Democratic Voters are almost as likely as Republicans to drive an SUV, and more likely to drive an import.
