It's too tempting NOT to make a correlation between car-centric nav systems and the television show Knight Rider. Now, Mio has announced plans to introduce a GPS with distinct KITT qualities, i.e., red LED lighting on each side of the screen, and directions read by William Daniels, the actor who provided KITT's speaking voice.
Quite frankly, we can't believe it took this long for this GPS to come out.
This new Mio (which powers up with KITT's familiar "Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?") has already become a media darling, even before it's expected fall release.
"Move over Dash Express. Take a seat, Garmin and Tom Tom," Engadget reports. "As of right now there's only one GPS unit worth buying, and it's this trick Knight Rider unit from Mio that issues directions in the voice of KITT."
Gizmodo's writer jokes, "I already have a GPS unit but I'll be damned if I'm not throwing it out" in exchange for the new Mio.
"Too bad the Trans Am is a long forgotten model at GM Dealerships, and with $4 gas who could afford to drive one anyway," GPS Lodge quips.
No one knows what other navigating or crime-fighting features the new Knight Rider GPS will have, but it is expected to retail for approximately $270.
