Mio Continues to Make Mooves in GPS Innovation

Dash Express gets some company in the market for Internet connectivity, as Mio introduces the Moov 380, a 4.3-inch GPS with a built-in SIM card.

Engadget reports the SIM card will "let you make and receive calls and text messages straight from the device without having to jump through the usual Bluetooth hoops." The Moov 380 is also designed for local Internet searches, and will operate at 2.75 and 3G connection speeds.

In the past few weeks Mio has made significant strides in the portable navigation arena, announcing plans for the first integrated GPS camera and manufacturing a car GPS with distinct KITT qualities, a la Knight Rider.

But bloggers speculate that this newest development, the Moov 380, will be hard to market. GPS Tracklog notes "it would require a carrier subscription, but it isn't a full replacement for a cell phone like the Garmin nuvifone."

Wired reports "Dash's monthly subscription fee of $12.99 would likely be lower since it only requires a data plan." As pricing has yet to be released for the new Moov, its also possible the Dash Express is a cheaper purchase since its latest price cut.
