Motor Trend reports, "Mazda has released U.S. pricing information for its upcoming 2009 Mazda6 sports sedan." Despite increases in the cost of most cars, the Mazda6 will still be available for under $20,000. The base Mazda6 i SV, with a standard six-speed manual transmission, will be offered at an MSRP of $19,220. That model is powered by a 170 horsepower inline-four cylinder engine. At the other end of the range, the Mazda6 S will start at $24,900. The S is powered by a 273 horsepower V6. Upgraded Grand Touring editions of both models will be offered, but Mazda has not revealed the price of those trims.
Fuel economy ratings for the new Mazda6 range from 21/30 for four cylinder models, to 17/25 for V6-powered editions. In a welcome move in today's market, both engines are designed for 87-octane fuel. In a press release available on Autoblog, Mazda adds, "All models, regardless of engine or trim grade, will include as standard equipment: air-conditioning, power windows, mirrors and door locks, anti-lock brakes (ABS), dynamic stability control, traction control, frontal and seat-mounted airbags for driver and front passenger, side air-curtain airbags for front and rear seat passengers and a tire-pressure monitoring system."
