Need to slow down traffic in your neighborhood? 11-year old Landon Wilburn of Louisville, Kentucky can help you out. He's got a hot wheels radar gun, a toy siren, and a mission in life.
The Chicago Tribune reports, "Dressed in a reflective vest, wearing a bicycle helmet and armed with a Hot Wheels brand radar gun, he points and records the speed of passing traffic. The boy also carries a flashlight with a built-in siren." Neighbor George Ayers told the Tribune that "he has seen drivers lock up their brakes when they saw Landon clocking them."
Residents of Wilburn's Stone Lakes subdivision, the AP reports, "Are frustrated that motorists tear through the neighborhood at 55 mph despite signs posting a 25 mph limit." The city has agreed to "install speed humps in the neighborhood if 70 percent of residents agree and are willing to put up half the money."
They may not need to. The Hot Wheels Radar Gun can be purchased for $35.14 on Amazon, with free shipping. The gun can be calibrated to 1/64 scale -- so you can measure the speed of your toy Dodge Challenger across the kitchen floor and under the dog -- or to actual speed, so you can clock the Civic of the teenager down the street as he whips through your neighborhood with the stereo obnoxiously loud. Or just send your kids out front to do it.
Perhaps we'll purchase one ourselves for test drives.
