Technoride reports that BMW has announced a U.S. version of its 335d sedan, which runs on diesel fuel and achieves 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, according to Edmunds Inside Line.
As a BMW, the fuel-friendly car won't suffer in the performance department. Automobile.com reports that the inline-6 engine "features twin turbochargers and common-rail injection to develop 265 horsepower, and will also feature a urea injection system to ensure low NOx emissions." Edmunds Inside Line describes the torque output (425 pound-feet at 1,750 rpm) as "staggering" and concludes: "So in other words, the 335d's inline-6 generates as much torque as Chrysler's 6.1-liter Hemi V8. It's enough power to get the 335d from zero to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds, BMW claims."
Can't wait to get your hands on this diesel-powered machine? In the meantime, see how the conventional BMW 3-Series stacks up in the U.S. News rankings.
