General Motors has seen a sales bump since offering its "Employee Pricing for Everyone" promotion, which placed many of its vehicles atop our monthly best car deals list. But so far, no other automakers have followed suit.
Chrysler, however, is stepping up to the plate...sort of. Motor Trend reports, "From now until September 30, members of the military, employees of companies that supply Chrysler, and returning lessees can get employee pricing on new Chrysler brands, plus a $200 program charge." The program, MT comments, "may go down as one of the most convoluted in history." It applies to "Active-duty members of the military, military reserve, retired military with honorable discharge and 20 years of service, and retired military reserve with honorable discharge and 20 years of service are all eligible, as long as honorably discharged veterans were discharged within six months of this sale. Active and retired Chrysler employees also can give one additional discount to a friend or family member."
Autoblog notes, "The employee pricing incentive can be used on top of any current discounts, making for a very healthy rebate on any new Dodge, Jeep, or Chrysler product. For example, the slow selling 2008 Dodge Ram can be had with $9,000 on the hood. That's enough money to partly make up for several years of bad fuel economy and rapidly depreciating value."
While Chrysler is preparing its employee pricing initiative, GM is putting an end to its own plan. The AP reports, "General Motors Corp. says it won't extend its offer of employee pricing for everyone after the deal ends this month."
