Sales on consumer electronics have hit a plateau since the holiday season, but the introduction of some value-priced gadgets could lure you out of your budgeting rut. For example, affordable GPS manufacturer Mio GPS will debut five new portable navigation devices this year with some never-before-seen features for the brand.

PC Magazine reports, "Ranging from an entry level device with a 3.5-inch screen to a model with a 7-inch screen, all of the new Moov GPSs are loaded with features. All new products will feature a new 'Spirit' interface -- a completely redesigned interface that focuses on ease of use. ... A first for Mio, all devices will include text-to-speech (TTS) in three languages (English, French and Spanish) with nine additional TTS languages on an included CD."

As CNET explains, Mio's new Spirit software, launched at CES 2009, "was designed to simplify map views and searches, including those for points of interest and other key navigation tools. Responding to customer feedback, the new search capabilities made it easier to search for POI close to your current location, destination, or along your route."

In a press release, President of Mio Technology Samuel Wang says, "Mio Spirit is a breakthrough in current navigation software design. By simplifying the navigation device's interface, users can save time and effort during their travel."

The smallest new Moov, the S300, stretches 3.5-inches diagonally, features text to speech functionality, and should list for $199.99. The Mio Moov S500 adds on a 4.7-inch display and an additional $50 to the price.

LaptopMag says the Mio Moov S556 has bells and whistles "that actually help drivers, instead of unnecessary ones like a video viewer, that won't actually assist anyone trying to get from point A to point B. While $299 is a bit steep, if the device is as simple to use as Mio claims, users will appreciate its features as much as they'll appreciate the sleek design and large display."

The S556M model is very similar, but adds an MSN Direct receiver for traffic and weather information, along with three months of free service. PC Magazine says, "Both the S556 and S556M have a junction view that's quite similar to Navigon's Reality View."

The Mio Moov S700 is the biggest of the lot, with "a mammoth 7-inch display and is perfect for RV's and campers. It also includes MAD Maps content for travelers who are looking for preloaded scenic routes and a unique journey," Navigadget writes.

All four models will have 12 million points of interest, and should be released in the first half of 2009. Check in with U.S. News' GPS reviews for more details on all four Mio Moov models, or to find the best GPS deals on navigation systems currently sold.
