The first day of the Geneva Motor Show saw the appearance of a jaw-dropping new concept car from Infiniti that has the automotive press buzzing.

Autoblog explains, "Infiniti is looking to make a big splash as it enters the European market at an unfortunate economic moment, and not much can tug at the heartstrings of the continent's populace like a high-powered, sexy coupe with a green soul. With the Essence concept, Nissan's upscale brand has delivered in a big way." The two-door uses "a direct-injection 3.7-liter V6 and a new electric drive design dubbed ‘3D Motor'" to create "a combined 592 brake horsepower" - 434 from the gasoline engine, 158 from the electric motor.

At this point, the car is just a concept. AutoWeek notes, "Infiniti isn't saying it will build the Essence. But styling cues on the car will show up on future Infiniti models."

Those styling cues are evoking some lustful reactions. Autoblog says, "The sultry cab-backwards coupe is nothing if not dramatically indulgent in its scale...something to behold in the metal, with elements that recall other coupes (the Fisker Karma comes to mind), but a look all its own."

AutoWeek calls it "curvaceous," and says the appeal continues inside. "The passenger compartment in the Essence is divided in half by a center console that sweeps out from the instrument panel. The driver's area, which a black color scheme, exudes a sports car feel with a gauge cluster that mimics high-end watches. The passenger's area, with a red color scheme, is swathed in luxury appointments."
